Apple Takes The Lead In Case Against Online Publishers

A judge has ruled that Apple Computer can force three online publications to surrender names of confidential sources who may have disclosed information about Apple's upcoming products. The case has serious implications in defining who is considered a journalist in the eyes of the law. Apple claimed that legal protections for shielding confidential sources only apply to "legitimate members of the press" and not online publications and blogs, and the judge agreed.
