ATI Technologies has announced that their new Radeon R520 graphics processor features hardware accelerated H.264 Advanced Video Codec (AVC) decoding. The H.264 compression format is used on forthcoming HD-DVD and Blu-Ray movie titles, and is twice as efficient at compressing video as MPEG-2, the current standard.
