Companies attempting to make a buck from open source are turning to a subscription-based support business model. It is yet unclear if customers are willing to pay for this in the same way they pay for support contracts from vendors of commercial software. Some companies to watch in this arena are SourceLabs, SpikeSource, Optaros, and Open Source Consulting LLC.
