Nikon is about to release the Nikon D50, an affordable digital SLR based on the popular Nikon D70. Digital Photography Review has published a detailed preview of the product. Besides for costing less than the Nikon D70, the Nikon D50 is smaller, lighter, and easier to use. It also has enhanced autofocus when used with motion tracking. The Nikon D50 uses SD memory cards, unlike the Nikon D70, which uses CF memory cards. The Nikon D50 competes with other affordable digital SLR cameras like the Canon EOS 350D (Digital Rebel XT) and the Olympus E-300.

Clues About Possible Video iPod Emerging

SiliconValleyWatcher is reporting that Apple has contracted with a small British company to use a powerful video processing chip designed for mobile devices. The chip can perform 3D rendering, play video on a 3.5 inch color LCD, and capture 8 megapixel images. The speculation is that Apple is working on a video player iPod that is also a gaming device, 8 megapixel digital camera, and possibly a cell phone.

Adobe Launches Creative Suite 2

Adobe today launched Adobe Creative Suite 2, containing updated versions of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Version Cue, and GoLive. It also contains Adobe Bridge, designed for integrating workflow among the various components of the suite. Adobe has set retail price of the suite at $1,199 for the Premium edition ($549 for the upgrade), and $899 for the Standard edition ($349 for the upgrade).

Details of Adobe's Creative Suite 2 have emerged after an accidental early posting of a press release. The product, to be announced on April 4th, has a number of significant improvements over the current Photoshop Creative Suite. New features include enhanced red eye and blemish removal tools, lens distorion removal, updated support for raw images, as well as new high quality scaling algorithms. In addition, new tools called Vanishing Point and Image Warp will provide enhanced professional image manipulation.

This successor to the popular D1X features 12.4 megapixels, a new CMOS sensor (instead of CCD), 2.5-inch LCD display, USB 2.0 connectivity, optional wireless networking and GPS support, and much more. As for speed, it can shoot at five frames per second at the full 12.4-megapixel resolution or at eight frames per second at a lower 6.8-megapixel resolution.
